Excessive manipulations, such as processing to emphasize one region in the image at the expense of others (for example, through the use of a biased choice of threshold settings), is inappropriate, as is emphasizing experimental data relative to the control.

STAP細胞の追試が成功しても、この論文のやらかしだけで研究者としては致命傷を負ってしまったのではないかと。

論文はNatureのサイトでオープンアクセスになっている [nature.com]ので、ご自分で確かめてみてはいかがでしょうか。
合成疑惑があるのはFig. 1 [nature.com]の i です。
中央のバンドの左右に合成痕と思しき線が入っています。

ないわけではないかなぁ、と。あまり大きな声では言えませんが。
例えば、論文に必要なレーンの間に別のサンプルを流している場合とかに、
必要なところだけ切り出してくっつける、みたいな操作はありえますね。
普通は、ファイナルデータのためにもう1度流すとは思いますが。
今回みたいなインパクトのある発表の場合は特に。
個人的には、別のところでも検証されている、レーン1、2が過去の別の論文のデータを、
上下反転して使用しているところのほうが気になっています。
Figを描く際にいかなる操作をしても、上下が反転することはありえないかなと思いますので。
