ちゃんとSIの文書にこういう記載がある。
The kilogram is the only coherent SI unit, whose name and symbol, for historical reasons, include a prefix. Names and symbols for decimal multiples and sub-multiples of the unit of mass are formed by attaching prefix names and symbols to the unit name “gram” and the unit symbol “g” respectively. For example, 10−6 kg is written as milligram, mg, not as microkilogram, μkg.

SIの質量の単位は"kg"であって"g"じゃない。
"kg"は"g"に1000倍の接頭語を付けた物ではなく、"キログラム"という名前の一つの単位です。
色々な経緯があって分かりにくいけど、こう決まってるので従うしかない。
なので地球の質量を表すなら、6ロナグラムではなく、6ヨタキログラムの方が適切かな。

そうなのね。だからメガグラムとかギガグラムって聞いたことがないのか。そういえばメガメートルも聞かないなあ。

ちっこい方はmgとかμgとかngとかふつーに使う。
接頭辞を付ける場合はgか基準になる。なのでロナグラムRgでいい。

接頭語を付ける場合はgが基準なのに、10の累乗で表す場合はkgが基準ってのが分かりにくい。
地球の質量なら、6ロナグラム 又は 6x10^24 kg。6x10^27 gという表現は見たことが無い。

大きい方はトンを使っちゃうからじゃないか?
…そのトンはメートルトンなのか仏トンなのか英トンなのかあるいは米トンか、どれだ!
もっと大きいと太陽質量単位とかになっちゃうしな。

トンを使う業界でキロトンとかメガトンとか使うのはその通りなんですけど
それはSI単位系の話ではないのでスレ違いなんですよ

というスレだよね。
それに対して、大きな数字はトンを使うからじゃないの?
っていう回答がスレ違いになるのは理解できない。
トン自体、「SI単位と併用できる非SI単位」なので、使っても良い。
※ただしメートルトンのみ。
実際、トンが普及しているからMgとか全然使われないんじゃないかと思うのだけどね。全然見たことないもんなぁ…。

他のコメでも指摘されてるけど、kgは質量原器がそこで定まってるって話であって表記は別に規定されてるね
